ADSB and RR Set up Waterjet Support Service Center in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Ship Building and Rolls-Royce Marine Middle East announced an agreement to set up a Waterjet Center of Excellence in Abu Dhabi to provide support services to its customers in the Arabian Gulf Region.
ADSB is the only naval shipyard in the Middle East, providing both build and support services for all Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) naval vessels. Rolls-Royce will work with ADSB to offer services such as training, maintenance, repairs and overhauls, spare parts and service contracts for waterjet customers.

San Antonio Takes New Technology to Sea

The amphibious transport dock ship USS San Antonio (LPD 17) deployed Aug. 28 as part of the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG), marking the first deployment of a ship in the technologically advanced San Antonio class of warships.  The deployment introduces new technology and capabilities never before seen in any ESG. One example of this technology is the shipwide area network (SWAN).

Pearl Seas Ship in Outfitting

Pearl Seas Cruises’ first ship, which was launched in March, is in its outfitting stage. “It is progressing with over 150 people working on the ship daily at Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax, Nova Scotia” said Vice President Tim Beebe.   The joiner work and the electrical installation are being completed at this time.    The cruise line plans to announce the ship’s name on Thursday August 14th. Pearl Seas Cruises expects the first ship to be delivered in the first quarter of 2009. more

Tanker Company Coats with Intersleek 900

 

A second Aframax tanker belonging to Mumbai-based Mercator Lines, the 105,000 dwt Prem Divya, has been coated with International Paint’s foul release coating, Intersleek 900. The move comes just nine months after sistership Prem Pride had her vertical sides coated with the latest generation patented fluoropolymer at Dubai Drydocks World. This time though, the hull upgrade of the ‘Prem Divya’ involved the entire underwater area of the 1998-built vessel during the tanker’s second special survey.
